Hermann Joseph Muller

Hermann Joseph Muller was an American geneticist who demonstrated that X-rays induce mutations and received the 1946 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

X-ray mutagenesis: The induction of genetic mutations by exposure to X-rays. Muller established experimentally that X-rays can produce heritable mutations.
Thomas Hunt Morgan: An American geneticist whose fruit-fly experiments established the chromosome theory of heredity. Muller trained in Morgan’s laboratory and continued its Drosophila research.
Alfred H. Sturtevant: An American geneticist who produced the first genetic linkage map. Sturtevant was a Morgan-school contemporary whose mapping work complemented Muller’s mutation studies.
