Hermann Oberth

Hermann Oberth (1894–1989) was a German-Romanian physicist whose writings and experiments helped establish modern rocketry and astronautics as technical fields.

Rocket propulsion: The production of thrust by expelling propellant, allowing a vehicle to accelerate through a surrounding medium or vacuum. Oberth analyzed how escaping gases could propel rockets beyond the limits of ordinary aircraft.
