Herta Müller

Herta Müller is a Romanian-born German writer whose novels and essays examine dictatorship, displacement, and life under Nicolae Ceaușescu. She received the 2009 Nobel Prize in Literature.

Nicolae Ceaușescu: Nicolae Ceaușescu led Romania as its communist ruler from 1965 until his overthrow and execution in 1989. His dictatorship supplies the political reality Müller depicts from lived experience.
