Hertz

The SI unit of frequency, equal to one cycle per second. It is named after physicist Heinrich Hertz.

Frequency: The number of recurring events or cycles per unit of time. Hertz is the SI unit used to express frequency.
Sound frequency: The rate at which a sound wave repeats its pressure pattern, perceived partly as pitch. Audio frequencies are commonly stated in hertz.
Heinrich Hertz: A German physicist who experimentally demonstrated electromagnetic waves in the 1880s. The SI unit hertz honors his demonstration of radio waves.
SI derived unit: An SI unit formed from combinations of the seven SI base units. The hertz is a derived unit equivalent to inverse seconds.
Period (physics): The time required for one complete cycle of a periodic process. A frequency of one hertz corresponds to a period of one second.
Radio frequency: The frequency of electromagnetic waves used for radio communication and broadcasting. Radio bands are identified by their frequencies in hertz and its multiples.
James Clerk Maxwell: A Scottish physicist whose equations unified electricity, magnetism, and light. Maxwell predicted electromagnetic waves that Hertz later detected experimentally.
Second: The SI base unit of time, defined by a specified transition frequency of cesium-133. One hertz is exactly one event per second.
Oscillation: Repeated variation around an equilibrium value or between two states. Oscillations are among the recurring processes whose rates are measured in hertz.
Refresh rate: The number of times per second a display updates its image. Display refresh rates are specified in hertz.
