Hispania

Hispania was the Roman name for the Iberian Peninsula, encompassing territories corresponding chiefly to modern Spain and Portugal. Roman rule transformed the region’s political boundaries, cities, languages, and institutions.

Roman conquest of the Iberian Peninsula: The campaigns by which Rome conquered Iberian territories from Carthage and local powers between the third and first centuries BCE. Conquest established Roman control over territories later organized as Hispania.
