History of Belgium

The history of the region and state of Belgium, shaped by successive empires, medieval principalities, foreign rule, and the creation of an independent nation in 1830.

Roman Belgium: The Roman province of Gallia Belgica, established in the first century BCE across parts of present-day Belgium and neighboring regions. Roman administration gave the region a lasting name and connected it to the empire.
