Draisine: An early two-wheeled, steerable vehicle propelled by pushing the feet against the ground. Karl von Drais’s 1817 machine established the basic two-wheel layout before pedals.
Bicycle chain: A linked metal chain that transmits power from a bicycle’s pedals to its driven wheel. The chain drive let designers use similar-sized wheels while multiplying pedal force.

Motorcycle: A motorized two-wheeled vehicle designed for road travel. Motorcycles developed from bicycle forms while replacing human power with engines.
