History of Eswatini

The history of Eswatini traces the formation and development of the Swazi kingdom, its colonial-era transformations, independence, and modern political life.

Ngwane III: A Swazi king associated with the establishment of the Swazi kingdom in the eighteenth century. His reign marks an early stage in the kingdom’s formation.
Sobhuza II: King of Swaziland from 1921 to 1982, whose reign spanned colonial rule, independence, and the restoration of royal authority. His long reign connects the protectorate era to independent Eswatini.
