History of Gabon

The history of Gabon encompasses its early societies, Atlantic coastal contact, French colonial rule, and independence in 1960, followed by postcolonial political and social change.

Bantu expansion: The spread of Bantu-speaking peoples across much of sub-Saharan Africa over several millennia. Bantu-speaking communities settled in the region long before European colonial boundaries existed.
