History of Gujarat

The history of Gujarat traces the western Indian region from the Indus Valley Civilization through successive kingdoms, colonial rule, and its formation as a modern Indian state in 1960.

Lothal: An Indus Valley Civilization settlement in Gujarat, known for its planned layout and dock-like basin. Its archaeological remains show Gujarat’s early urban life and maritime trade.
Gujarat Sultanate: An independent Muslim kingdom that ruled much of Gujarat from 1407 until its conquest by the Mughals in 1573. Its rulers built a powerful regional state and reshaped Gujarat’s cities and architecture.

Indus Valley Civilization: A Bronze Age civilization centered on cities across the Indus River basin and neighboring regions. Its settlements in Gujarat place the region within South Asia’s earliest urban civilization.
Chaulukya dynasty: A medieval dynasty, also called the Solankis, that ruled Gujarat from the tenth to thirteenth centuries. The dynasty fostered a powerful kingdom and enduring temple architecture in Gujarat.
