Paionia: An ancient kingdom in the central Balkans, north of Macedon, known from Greek and Roman sources. Paionian communities occupied parts of the territory before Roman rule.
Macedonian Struggle: A conflict from 1904 to 1908 in Ottoman Macedonia involving Greek, Bulgarian, and other armed groups. Its rival national movements contested control and identity in the region before Ottoman rule ended.
