Viking Age : The period of Scandinavian seafaring, raiding, trade, and settlement conventionally dated from the late eighth to the mid-eleventh century. Norwegian chieftains and seafarers helped define this era through overseas voyages and expanding royal power.
Harald Fairhair : A Norwegian king traditionally credited with uniting much of Norway in the late ninth century. His reign anchors the traditional account of Norway’s emergence as a kingdom.
Prehistoric Norway : The human past in Norway before written historical records, including Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age societies. Archaeological evidence traces settlement and adaptation long before written accounts of the kingdom.
Olaf II of Norway : A Norwegian king who ruled from 1015 to 1028 and was later venerated as Saint Olaf. His legacy linked Christian kingship with Norway’s emerging national identity.

Margaret I of Denmark : The Danish queen who established the Kalmar Union and ruled over Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Her dynastic policies brought Norway into a union that shaped its later political history.
Norwegian independence from Sweden : The peaceful dissolution in 1905 of the union between Norway and Sweden, establishing Norway as a fully independent state. The separation completed the constitutional state-building process begun in 1814.
