History of Pakistan

The history of Pakistan traces the peoples, societies, and political formations of the region now within Pakistan, from ancient civilizations to the modern state founded in 1947.

Indus Valley Civilization: A Bronze Age civilization centered on the Indus River basin, known for planned cities such as Harappa and Mohenjo-daro. Its urban centers are among the earliest major societies in the region now within Pakistan.
Partition of India: The 1947 division of British India into the independent states of India and Pakistan, accompanied by mass migration and violence. Partition created Pakistan and transformed its population and borders.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah: A lawyer and politician who led the Muslim League and became Pakistan’s first governor-general. His leadership made him the central political figure in Pakistan’s creation.
Indo-Pakistani wars: The armed conflicts fought between India and Pakistan, principally in 1947–48, 1965, and 1971. These wars defined security policy and altered the region’s political map.
