History of Somaliland

The history of Somaliland traces societies in the Horn of Africa through British rule, union with Italian Somaliland in 1960, and the self-declared restoration of independence in 1991.

Italian Somaliland: An Italian colonial territory in the Horn of Africa that became the independent Somali Republic with British Somaliland in 1960. Its distinct colonial administration shaped the unequal foundations of the 1960 union.
