History of Tonga

The history of Tonga traces the development of its Polynesian society and kingdom from early settlement through chiefly rule, European contact, independence, and modern politics.

Lapita culture: An archaeological culture of the western Pacific, known especially for distinctive pottery and long-distance settlement. Lapita sites mark the early settlement horizon from which Tongan society developed.
