Warsaw Confederation: A 1573 agreement among Polish nobles that established religious peace and protections for non-Catholics in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Its adoption in Warsaw made the city a landmark of the Commonwealth’s religious settlement.
Duchy of Masovia: A medieval and early modern Polish principality centered on the Mazovia region. Warsaw grew within the Duchy of Masovia before the region was incorporated into the Polish Crown.
