Hizb ut-Tahrir

Hizb ut-Tahrir is an international Islamist political organization founded in 1953 that seeks to reestablish a caliphate through political activity. It rejects participation in electoral politics and says it pursues change without armed struggle.

Caliphate: A form of Islamic government led by a caliph, understood as successor to the Prophet Muhammad in political leadership. The organization’s central political goal is to restore this form of rule.
Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani: A Palestinian Islamic scholar and judge who founded Hizb ut-Tahrir in 1953. He shaped the party’s founding doctrine and organizational method.
