Hoggar Mountains

The Hoggar Mountains, also called the Ahaggar Mountains, are a volcanic mountain massif in the central Sahara of southern Algeria, with Mount Tahat as their highest peak.

Mount Tahat: The highest peak in the Hoggar Mountains, rising to about 2,908 metres in southern Algeria. This summit anchors the massif’s rugged highlands and is its best-known elevation.
Cenozoic: The geological era spanning roughly the last 66 million years, from the end of the Cretaceous to the present. Much of the Hoggar’s volcanic activity occurred during this era.
Assekrem: A high plateau in the Hoggar Mountains, known for its dramatic volcanic scenery and hermitage. Its summit views showcase the massif’s rugged volcanic relief.

Basalt: A dark, fine-grained volcanic rock formed when low-viscosity lava cools rapidly at or near the surface. Basaltic lava flows occur among the massif’s volcanic formations.
