Hollywood blacklist

The exclusion of film-industry workers from employment because of alleged communist affiliations or sympathies, especially during the Cold War.

House Un-American Activities Committee: A United States House committee that investigated alleged subversion, including communist influence in the entertainment industry. Its 1947 Hollywood hearings helped trigger the blacklist.
