Holocene calendar

A proposed calendar that adds 10,000 years to Gregorian dates, placing the present in the tenth millennium of the Holocene Era.

Holocene: The current geological epoch, beginning after the last major glaciation about 11,700 years ago. The calendar takes its name and proposed starting point from this geological epoch.
Cesare Emiliani: An Italian-American geologist and oceanographer known for pioneering oxygen-isotope analysis of deep-sea cores. He proposed the Holocene calendar in 1993.
Year zero: A year numbered zero, absent from the traditional BC/AD sequence but present in astronomical year numbering. The Holocene proposal’s offset raises questions about consistent conversion across eras.
Anthropocene: A proposed geological epoch defined by substantial human influence on Earth’s systems. Both concepts reconsider how human activity belongs within geological time.
