Home (verb)

To home is to move or direct toward a destination or target, often by using cues that guide the approach.

Homing guidance: A guidance method that steers a moving object toward a target using signals received from that target. This is the general control strategy behind homing toward a target.
Homing missile: A guided missile that steers itself toward a target using information from sensors. The missile literally homes toward its intended target.
Navigation: The process of determining and controlling movement from one location to another. Homing is a target-directed form of the broader process of navigation.
Target (engineering): An object, location, or state that a system is designed to reach or affect. Homing requires a destination or target toward which movement is directed.
Proportional navigation: A guidance law that turns a pursuing vehicle in proportion to the rate at which its target's direction changes. Missiles use this steering rule to home toward moving targets.
Homing torpedo: A torpedo that uses onboard sensors to steer toward a ship or other target. Its guidance system directs it toward a detected target underwater.
Tracking: The act of monitoring a moving object or its position over time. Tracking observes a target; homing additionally moves toward it.
Sensor: A device or biological structure that detects and responds to physical or chemical signals. Sensors provide cues that can guide movement toward a target.
Active radar homing: A missile guidance method in which the missile carries a radar transmitter and receiver to track its target. It homes by sending out radar signals and following their reflections.
Homing beacon: A transmitter that emits a signal used by a receiver to navigate toward its location. The beacon supplies a signal that makes homing possible.
