House of Valois

The House of Valois was a branch of the Capetian dynasty that ruled France from 1328 to 1589, succeeding the direct Capetians and preceding the Bourbons.

Philip VI of France: The first Valois king of France, who ruled from 1328 to 1350. His accession began Valois rule and triggered Edward III’s claim to the French crown.
Capetian dynasty: A French royal dynasty that ruled from 987 to 1328 and continued through its branches afterward. The Valois emerged as a cadet branch of this ruling family.
