House of Wessex

The royal dynasty that ruled Wessex and later supplied kings who expanded authority across England, culminating in a united English kingdom under its line.

Cerdic of Wessex: A legendary founder of the West Saxon royal line, traditionally dated to the sixth century. Later royal genealogies traced the dynasty’s descent to this semi-legendary founder.
Alfred the Great: King of Wessex from 871 to 899, known for resisting Viking conquest and promoting learning and reform. He preserved the West Saxon kingdom and laid foundations for later English expansion.
