HTML5

HTML5 is a major revision of HTML that added semantic elements, native audio and video, graphics, and features for richer web applications.

HTML: HTML is the markup language used to structure content on the web. HTML5 is a major revision within HTML’s continuing development.
HTML5 audio: HTML5 audio is browser playback of sound through the audio element without requiring a plugin. The audio element gave web pages a native way to embed sound.
World Wide Web Consortium: The World Wide Web Consortium is an international organization that develops standards for the web. The W3C became the principal standards body for HTML5’s later development.
Progressive web app: A progressive web app is a web application that uses browser capabilities to provide app-like behavior across devices. HTML5-era browser APIs helped make app-like experiences possible on the web.
Adobe Flash: Adobe Flash was a multimedia software platform for delivering interactive content and animation in web browsers. Native HTML media and graphics reduced reliance on Flash plugins.
HTML element: An HTML element is a document structure or content unit represented by markup, such as a heading or link. HTML5 introduced elements that describe modern content and page structure.
HTML5 video: HTML5 video is browser playback of moving images through the video element without requiring a plugin. The video element brought native video playback into ordinary web documents.
WHATWG: WHATWG is a standards group that develops the HTML Living Standard and related web specifications. WHATWG began the effort that became the basis of modern HTML development.
Web application: A web application is software accessed through a web browser, often combining a user interface with network services. HTML5 expanded the capabilities available to browser-based software.
WebAssembly: WebAssembly is a portable binary instruction format designed to run programs efficiently in web browsers and other environments. It complements HTML rather than replacing HTML’s role in document structure.
