HTML

HTML is the standard markup language for structuring content on web pages. Its elements identify parts such as headings, links, images, and forms.

HTML element: A unit of HTML markup, usually formed from a start tag, content, and an end tag. Elements provide the basic structures that HTML combines into a document.
HTML parsing: The process by which a browser converts HTML source into a structured document representation. Parsing turns HTML text into the DOM that the browser can render.
Hyperlink: A reference in a digital document that connects to another location or resource. HTML links connect pages and resources through the web’s navigable structure.
Tim Berners-Lee: A British computer scientist who invented the World Wide Web and created its first web technologies. Berners-Lee designed the early HTML system for linking and sharing documents.
XML: A markup metalanguage for defining text-based formats that represent structured data and documents. XML is more strictly extensible, while HTML defines a fixed vocabulary for web content.
HTML attribute: A name–value setting in an HTML start tag that supplies additional information about an element. Attributes add details such as link destinations, image descriptions, and element identifiers.
Web browser: Software that retrieves, processes, and displays web content for users. Browsers interpret HTML and present its structure as a web page.
HTML form: An HTML structure that collects user input and submits it for processing. Forms let HTML pages gather information using controls such as text fields and buttons.
World Wide Web: A system of interlinked documents and resources accessed over the internet using web technologies. HTML emerged as the document language for the World Wide Web.
XHTML: A family of HTML reformulations expressed using XML syntax rules. XHTML applies XML’s stricter syntax to HTML-like documents.
