Hubert Dreyfus

Hubert Dreyfus (1929–2017) was an American philosopher who interpreted Martin Heidegger and argued that human expertise and understanding resist replication by symbolic artificial intelligence.

Martin Heidegger: A German philosopher whose analysis of being, practical involvement, and existence shaped twentieth-century thought. Dreyfus developed a major English-language interpretation of Heidegger’s account of human existence and practical understanding.
Phenomenology: A philosophical approach that describes structures of experience as they are lived. Dreyfus used phenomenology to challenge theories that treat cognition as detached symbol manipulation.
