Hugo Schmeisser

Hugo Schmeisser (1884–1953) was a German firearms designer associated with the MP 18 submachine gun and the StG 44 assault rifle. His work spanned the emergence of practical automatic infantry weapons.

Submachine gun: A compact automatic firearm designed to fire pistol cartridges. The MP 18 belongs to this weapon class, which Schmeisser helped establish.
