Hungarian nationalism

Hungarian nationalism is a political movement promoting Hungarian national identity, self-government, and cultural life, especially within the Habsburg and later Austro-Hungarian states.

Hungarian Reform Era: A period of political, economic, and cultural reform in Hungary from the 1820s to the 1848 revolution. It gave national demands institutions, programs, and prominent advocates before revolution.
Magyarization: Policies promoting the Hungarian language and identity among the populations of the Kingdom of Hungary. It shows how national institutions sought to make Hungarian the dominant public identity.
István Széchenyi: A Hungarian statesman and reformer who promoted modernization and founded the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His reform program linked national advancement to economic and institutional change.

Hungarian language reform: The deliberate modernization and standardization of Hungarian, especially during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Making Hungarian a modern public language strengthened cultural nationhood.
Hungarian Diet: The representative legislature of the Kingdom of Hungary, with roots in the medieval estates. The Diet became a forum for turning nationalist goals into laws and constitutional claims.
Lajos Kossuth: A Hungarian politician and journalist who led the independence movement during the 1848 revolution. He became the most prominent voice for revolutionary self-government and independence.
Romanian nationalism: A movement promoting Romanian national identity and political rights, including among Romanians in Transylvania. Romanian demands contested Hungary’s territorial and political claims.
Treaty of Trianon: The 1920 peace treaty that defined Hungary’s borders after the First World War and transferred much territory to neighboring states. Its territorial settlement became a lasting focus of Hungarian national memory and politics.
