Hyder Ali

Hyder Ali was a military leader who ruled the Kingdom of Mysore from 1761 until his death in 1782, expanding its power and fighting the East India Company.

Tipu Sultan: The ruler of Mysore from 1782 to 1799 and Hyder Ali’s son and successor. He inherited Mysore’s throne and continued his father’s conflict with the East India Company.
Mysorean rocket: An iron-cased military rocket developed and used by Mysore’s forces against British armies. Hyder Ali expanded the use of rockets in Mysore’s army.
First Anglo-Mysore War: A war fought from 1767 to 1769 between Mysore and the East India Company, with allied Indian powers. Hyder Ali’s forces advanced to Madras, compelling the Company to make peace.
