Hypercarnivore

A hypercarnivore is an animal whose diet consists predominantly of animal tissue, commonly defined as deriving more than 70% of its food from meat.

Carnivory: An animal feeding strategy in which animals consume other animals. Hypercarnivory is a high-meat form of this broader feeding strategy.
Predation: An interaction in which one organism captures and consumes another organism. Predation is a common route by which hypercarnivores acquire animal tissue.
Food web: A network showing feeding relationships among organisms in an ecosystem. Hyper carnivores can shape food-web structure through their consumption of animal prey.

Mesopredator release: An increase in mid-sized predator abundance after larger predators decline or disappear. The loss of large hypercarnivores can release smaller predators from competition or predation.
Omnivory: A feeding strategy that regularly includes both plant and animal foods. Omnivores differ in relying on a broader mix than hypercarnivores.
Gastric acid: Hydrochloric acid and other acidic substances secreted into the stomach to aid digestion. Strong stomach acidity can help process animal tissues and reduce pathogens in raw food.
