Hyperlink

A hyperlink is a reference embedded in digital content that leads to another location, document, or resource when activated.

URL: A URL is a standardized address that identifies a resource and often specifies how to access it. A hyperlink commonly stores a URL as its destination.
Hypertext: Hypertext is text or other content containing links that allow movement between related information. Hyperlinks are the connections that make digital content function as hypertext.
Web navigation: Web navigation is the movement among pages and resources using links, menus, and other controls. Hyperlinks are a basic means of moving between web resources.
Button (web interface): A web interface button is a control that triggers an action or submits a choice. Buttons perform actions, while hyperlinks primarily identify destinations.
Memex: Memex was Vannevar Bush's proposed desk-like system for storing records and navigating associative trails between them. Its trails anticipated linked paths through information.
HTML anchor element: The HTML <a> element creates a hyperlink to another resource or a location in a document. This element is the standard markup mechanism for hyperlinks on the web.
Anchor text: Anchor text is the visible, clickable text that labels a hyperlink. It presents a link's destination or purpose within the surrounding content.
Backlink: A backlink is a hyperlink on one page that points to another page, considered from the destination's perspective. Backlinks reveal how other pages connect to a given resource.
Redirect: A redirect automatically sends a request from one URL to another. A redirect changes a request's destination without requiring a user to follow a hyperlink.
