Hypostyle hall

A large interior space whose roof is supported by many columns. Its dense supports create a roofed expanse without requiring long unsupported spans.

Column: A vertical structural element that carries loads from above to a foundation or lower structure. Repeated columns provide the defining supports beneath a hypostyle hall’s roof.
