Knowra Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (1372–1449) was an Egyptian Shafi‘i scholar, judge, historian, and hadith expert. His best-known work is Fath al-Bari, a commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari.
Hadith : Reports describing the words, actions, and approvals of the Prophet Muhammad, transmitted through chains of narrators. Hadith transmission and evaluation formed the center of his scholarly work.
Fath al-Bari : Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani’s extensive commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari, explaining its reports, wording, and scholarly debates. This is the work through which his method and learning are most widely known.
Bulugh al-Maram : Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani’s collection of hadith reports selected for their relevance to Islamic legal rulings. It shows his skill in arranging prophetic reports for legal study.
Al-Dhahabi : A 14th-century Syrian Muslim historian and hadith scholar known for biographical works and evaluations of transmitters. His earlier biographical scholarship shaped the tradition Ibn Hajar extended and revised.
Sahih al-Bukhari commentaries : Scholarly explanations of the reports, structure, language, and legal implications of Sahih al-Bukhari. Fath al-Bari became one of the collection’s most influential commentaries.

Al-Sakhawi : A 15th-century Egyptian historian and hadith scholar who studied under Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani. His pupil preserved extensive biographical information about Ibn Hajar and his scholarly circle.
Hadith canonization : The historical process by which particular hadith collections gained recognized authority and status. His commentary reinforced the study and authority of Sahih al-Bukhari.
