Icelandic Commonwealth

The Icelandic Commonwealth was Iceland’s medieval political system, traditionally dated from the Althing’s establishment in 930 until Iceland accepted Norwegian sovereignty in 1262–1264. It had no king or central executive; local chieftains and the Althing shaped law and governance.
