Gram matrixBroader topic: It is the Gram matrix of an orthonormal collection of vectors.
EigenvalueRelated: Subtracting a scalar multiple of it forms the matrix used to test eigenvalues.
Matrix inverseNarrower topic: It is the neutral element that the inverse must produce.
Characteristic polynomialRelated: It makes λI − A a matrix whose determinant defines the polynomial.
OneRelated: Its diagonal entries are one, preserving vectors under matrix multiplication.
