Imru' al-Qais

Imru' al-Qais was a sixth-century Arabian poet whose celebrated pre-Islamic Arabic verse helped establish the qasida as a major poetic form.

Qasida: A long Arabic poem traditionally organized around a sequence of thematic sections and a single rhyme. Imru' al-Qais is traditionally celebrated as a master of this form.
Mu'allaqa of Imru' al-Qais: A long pre-Islamic Arabic ode attributed to Imru' al-Qais and included among the Mu'allaqat. Its opening campsite scene and vivid descriptions anchor his poetic reputation.
