Industrial robot

An industrial robot is a reprogrammable, automatically controlled manipulator used in industrial automation to move materials, parts, tools, or devices. Its programmable motions let one machine perform different tasks or repeat a task precisely.

Robot manipulator: A mechanical system of linked segments and joints that positions or moves an end effector. Industrial robots are manipulators whose joints carry tools or workpieces through programmed paths.
Robotic welding: The use of robots to perform welding operations along programmed paths. Welding is a common use for repeatable, accurately positioned robot motion.

Robot link: A rigid segment connecting joints in a robot mechanism. Links form the arm structure that carries the tool through its workspace.
SCARA: A robot architecture with compliant horizontal motion and comparatively rigid vertical motion. SCARA robots suit fast planar assembly rather than the broader motions of many industrial arms.
Robot safety: The engineering and practices used to reduce risks from robot systems. Robot speed, force, and work-cell layout create hazards that require safeguards.
