IPCC Assessment Report : A major IPCC publication that assesses climate research across defined topics and summarizes findings for policymakers. These reports are the panel’s central product, produced through coordinated expert assessment.
World Meteorological Organization : A United Nations specialized agency coordinating international work on weather, climate, water, and related sciences. The WMO co-established the IPCC with the United Nations Environment Programme in 1988.
Bert Bolin : A Swedish meteorologist who became the first chair of the IPCC and helped establish its assessment process. As founding chair, he guided the panel through its formative years.
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change : The 1992 treaty that provides the principal international framework for cooperation on climate change. The IPCC supplies assessments that inform negotiations under this treaty.
Climate research : Scientific investigation of the climate system, its variability, and its changing conditions. Researchers produce the studies the IPCC assesses; the panel does not conduct this research itself.
IPCC Working Group I : The IPCC working group that assesses the physical science basis of climate change. It evaluates observations, attribution, and projections underlying the panel’s assessments.

Rajendra Kumar Pachauri : An Indian economist and energy expert who chaired the IPCC from 2002 to 2015. He led the panel during the Fourth and Fifth Assessment Reports.
Paris Agreement : A 2015 international treaty aiming to limit global warming and strengthen adaptation and climate finance. IPCC findings inform the agreement’s temperature goals and assessments of progress.
Climate Action Network : An international network of environmental organizations advocating for climate action. Unlike the IPCC, it campaigns for policy positions rather than issuing neutral assessments.
