Intermediate host

An organism in which a parasite undergoes development before reaching its definitive host, where it typically reproduces sexually.

Definitive host: A host in which a parasite reaches sexual maturity or reproduces sexually. Parasites move from an intermediate host to this host to complete their life cycle.
Taenia solium: A tapeworm species that causes taeniasis and cysticercosis in humans and pigs. Pigs commonly harbor its larval cysts as intermediate hosts.
