IoT security : The practices and technologies used to protect connected devices, networks, and data from attack or misuse. Exposed devices can provide attackers access to systems and sensitive information.

Mirai botnet : A malware-driven network of compromised internet-connected devices used in large-scale distributed denial-of-service attacks. Mirai showed how insecure IoT devices can be assembled into powerful attack infrastructure.
John Romkey : An American computer engineer who demonstrated an internet-connected toaster in 1990. Romkey's toaster demonstration made network control of an ordinary appliance tangible.
