iPod

The iPod was Apple’s line of portable digital media players, introduced in 2001 and discontinued in 2022. Its compact design and close integration with iTunes helped make digital music libraries portable and mainstream.

iTunes: Apple’s media-management application and digital storefront for organizing, playing, and syncing music and other media. iTunes organized music libraries and synchronized them with early iPods.
Tony Fadell: An engineer and entrepreneur who led development of the original iPod and later co-founded Nest Labs. He proposed and led the product effort that became the first iPod.
iPod classic: The hard-drive-based iPod model line, known for storing large music libraries and later using a color display. It represents the original full-size iPod design and its emphasis on capacity.
Sony Walkman: Sony’s portable audio-player brand, first introduced in 1979 with a cassette-based model. The Walkman made personal portable listening familiar before the iPod digitized it.

Creative NOMAD Jukebox: A family of portable digital music players introduced by Creative Technology in 2000. It showed that hard-drive music players existed before Apple’s more integrated offering.
iPod operating system: The software platform that runs iPod functions such as music playback, menus, and media management. It coordinated the interface, playback, and device features behind the physical controls.
Jonathan Ive: A British industrial designer who led Apple’s design team for many of its best-known products. His team shaped the iPod’s compact enclosure and distinctive minimalist appearance.
