Iranian oil nationalization

Iran's 1951 assertion of state control over its oil industry, ending the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company's control over extraction and refining.

Anglo-Iranian Oil Company: The British-controlled company that held the principal concession to extract and refine Iranian oil. Its control of Iran's oil industry was the direct target of nationalization.
Mohammad Mosaddegh: Iranian prime minister from 1951 to 1953 and leading advocate of oil nationalization. He led the government that enacted and defended nationalization.
