Irish Free State

The Irish Free State was a self-governing dominion established in 1922 across most of Ireland. It evolved into an independent state and became the Republic of Ireland in 1949.

Anglo-Irish Treaty: The 1921 agreement that ended the Irish War of Independence and established the Irish Free State as a dominion. Its terms created the state and divided Irish nationalists over the settlement.
