Traditionalism : An approach that gives inherited teachings, practices, and authorities a central role. Traditionalist approaches shape debates over preserving established curricula and teaching methods.
Qur’anic studies : The study of the Qur’an’s text, recitation, interpretation, history, and literary features. Qur’anic study is a central component of religious instruction.
Al-Qarawiyyin : A historic institution of learning in Fez, Morocco, associated with a mosque founded in the ninth century. Its long history illustrates the development of mosque-linked scholarship in North Africa.
