Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is the name used by the Taliban for the Afghan government it established in 1996 and restored in 2021.

Taliban: An Islamist political and military movement that has governed Afghanistan and fought its governments and foreign forces. The movement governs in the name of the emirate and supplies its leadership.
Afghan Civil War (1992–1996): The conflict among Afghan factions following the collapse of the communist government in 1992. Factional fighting preceded the Taliban's capture of Kabul and first emirate.
