Islamic feminism

Islamic feminism is a movement and body of thought that pursues gender equality through interpretations of Islamic texts, traditions, and societies.

Qur'anic hermeneutics: The methods used to interpret the Qur'an in relation to language, history, and religious tradition. Contextual readings can contest patriarchal interpretations presented as timeless religious rules.
Qasim Amin: An Egyptian intellectual whose writings on women's education and social status became influential in early twentieth-century reform debates. His work helped make women's emancipation a prominent question in modern Muslim public life.
Amina Wadud: An American Muslim scholar known for feminist interpretations of the Qur'an and work on gender-inclusive Muslim practice. Her Qur'anic readings became a major reference point for contemporary Islamic feminist thought.
