A state established in 1979 after the Iranian Revolution, governed by republican institutions under the constitutional oversight of clerical authorities.

Supreme Leader of Iran: Iran’s highest-ranking political and religious authority, with constitutional powers over major state institutions and policy. The office holds ultimate authority over the armed forces, judiciary, and key state appointments.
Iranian Revolution: The 1978–1979 mass uprising that overthrew Iran’s monarchy and brought the Islamic Republic to power. The revolution dismantled the Pahlavi monarchy and created the opening for the new state.
