Isoxazole

Isoxazole is a five-membered aromatic heterocycle with adjacent oxygen and nitrogen atoms and three carbon atoms. Its ring has two carbon–carbon double-bond equivalents and one nitrogen–oxygen adjacency.

Heterocyclic compound: A cyclic compound whose ring contains at least one atom other than carbon. Isoxazole belongs to this broad structural family.
Hückel's rule: A rule predicting aromaticity in planar, cyclic, conjugated systems with 4n + 2 pi electrons. The ring’s six pi electrons satisfy the aromatic electron-count condition.

Nucleophilic aromatic substitution: A substitution reaction in which a nucleophile replaces a leaving group on an electron-deficient aromatic ring. Electron deficiency makes some substituted isoxazoles susceptible to nucleophilic displacement.
