Istanbul Metro

Istanbul’s urban rapid-transit network comprises metro lines serving the city and connecting with other public transport. It operates across both European and Asian sides of the city.

M1 (Istanbul Metro): An Istanbul Metro line connecting Yenikapı with Atatürk Airport and Kirazlı through branches. Its branches and central stations show how the network serves the European side.
Istanbul Airport: Istanbul’s main international airport, located northwest of the city center. Metro line M11 connects the airport with the city’s rail network.
Istanbul Tünel: A historic underground funicular railway opened in Istanbul in 1875. It predates the modern metro and illustrates the city’s long history of underground urban transit.
Istanbul Metrobus: A bus rapid transit service operating on dedicated lanes along Istanbul’s D-100 highway corridor. It carries high passenger volumes on dedicated road lanes rather than underground rail.
M2 (Istanbul Metro): An Istanbul Metro line running between Yenikapı and Hacıosman via central districts. It forms a major north–south route through the European side’s central business districts.
Sabiha Gökçen International Airport: An international airport on Istanbul’s Asian side, in the Pendik district. Metro line M4 provides a direct rail connection to the airport.
Istanbul Metro Line M1: The first modern Istanbul Metro line, opened in 1989 between Aksaray and Kartaltepe. Its opening marked the start of the contemporary metro network.
Istanbul suburban rail: Istanbul’s urban and regional passenger rail services, including trains on the Marmaray corridor. Suburban rail serves longer corridors and shares some interchange points with the metro.
M4 (Istanbul Metro): An Istanbul Metro line connecting Kadıköy with Sabiha Gökçen Airport on the Asian side. It is a principal rapid-transit corridor on the Asian side.
Yenikapı Transfer Center: A major Istanbul transit interchange connecting metro, Marmaray, and ferry services. Several metro lines meet here, alongside Marmaray and ferry connections.
