J. M. Barrie

J. M. Barrie was a Scottish novelist and playwright best known for creating Peter Pan and writing the play Peter Pan; or, The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up. He also wrote novels, short stories, and plays for adults.

Peter Pan: A fictional boy who can fly and refuses to grow up, created by J. M. Barrie. Barrie’s most famous character began in a novel before becoming the center of his play.
Kirriemuir: A town in Angus, Scotland, where J. M. Barrie was born in 1860. Barrie’s childhood in Kirriemuir supplied settings and memories for his Scottish stories.
Peter Pan (1953 film): Walt Disney Productions’ 1953 animated adaptation of J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. Its songs and imagery became a widely recognized screen version of Barrie’s play.
Great Ormond Street Hospital: A children’s hospital in London that received the rights to Peter Pan from J. M. Barrie in 1929. Barrie’s gift gave the hospital a continuing financial interest in Peter Pan.
